I've read a couple of posts that say they will eat blood worms. Is that something I would buy in the live food section at the LFS? Are blood worms mosquito larve? Do you think Assassins would eat live brine shrimp? Anyone ever try?
Bloodworms are indeed midge larva or larva of nonbiting mosquitoes. Considering their nature, they will take anything meaty.

I buy them frozen, they tear them up. I think any meaty food would work really.

I have seen the frozen blood worms - sounds much easier than the live kind. I'll have to try it.

I read somewhere that they'll also eat shrimp pellets. They are snails; even though they may prefer live food I would expect them to be opportunistic scavengers as well.

I've tried a sinking pelleted food made for carnivores and they crawled around it but I don't think they were eating it - hard to tell for sure. The pond snails ate it though.

Meaty foods like frozen blood worms, mysis shrimp, krill, fish, snail, or beef heart are all foods that I have confirmed as being eaten by the assassins. I have also seen them eat high protien dried foods but only when they had no other food source.
What I have not seen them eat persoanlly shrimp pellets and alage wafers both of these have been reported by other people as something they will eat but I have not visually confirmed it myself.

I don't own anything (other than shrimp ironically) that will eat shrimp pellets. My assassins readily eat ken's catfish pellets (even though they have baby snails dropped in a couple times a week)
