View Full Version : Are these scratches or cracks in my acrylic tank?

Alright, I'm hoping I'm paranoid, but I think my 6 gallon eclipse tank might have some cracking along the bottom edge. I know that acrylic is prone to scratching, but these don't seem like lil scratches. All of the marks are under 1/2 inch and can only be felt on the outside of the tank (as far as I can tell). They don't feel deep when I run my fingernail over them, but when viewing them from a side angle they seem kind of deep.
Anyway, I did my best to some take pictures of them... thoughts?

They sure do look like cracks. Is your tank not sitting flat? It looks like you have it sitting up on something?

oh, no in that last picture it is a coin that slid under the tank... the tank is formed with several circular "feet" so that it sits slightly raised. Not sure why exactly.
The tank has feet? Are you sure its not a reptile tank?

yes... unless it was packaged incorrectly and happens to look exactly the same as the eclipse 6 gallon aquarium. maybe feet was the wrong word, but the tank sits on 6 flat, circular things that are about the size of a half dollar.. they're part of the tank, not like separate pieces or anything

Oh OK...It's only a 6gal...somehow I missed that. I would just keep an eye on it to make sure they don't get any worse. Being a 6gal there is not a lot of weight there.

How long have you had it?
Did you make any of the "cracks" or do you know of anything that could have caused it?
It looks like they're just deep scratches in the acrylic.

I got the tank a year ago. It's on my nightstand so stuff (mostly water glasses) bumps into it once and awhile, but i've never knocked it and then noticed a resulting scratch. Some of the scratch/cracks go slightly underneath the tank too, so I don't really know how those could just be scratches. I went on amazon.com and looked up reviews for this tank and two people wrote that they had hairline cracking along the bottom seam. I guess I'll just keep a close eye on it for the next couple of days.
ergh, it's just annoying.. the funny thing is I was telling my roommate about how paranoid I am about my 20 gallon busting somehow, but that I wasn't worried about the 6 gallon because it's so little. I guess I jinxed myself :silly:
