I hope its not a silly question. I have this fancy goldfish about 2.5" only and for a couple of weeks, I've noticed its belly is bigger than usual. The scales are not sticking out like in dropsy. It is eating and moving around normally. Its poo is not abnormally long or knotty. So I think it is not constipation.

Can you help me diagnose this fish from the pics? The other tankmates are perfectly alright. The only thing unusual I noticed is the big male comet chasing this one around, sticking its head under this one's belly. I don't even know if this one is a female or not.

It could be holding eggs, or just fat. Also it could be the first signs of dropsy. Are your water parameters ok?

Water parameters are ok. NH3=0, No2=0, NO3=10

It is not behaving like a sick fish at all.

As from what age or size do goldfish generally start breeding?

My comets started breeding at three years of age.

i have a couple of fancies with big tums like that, they are both females, maybe its a girl thing! i wouldnt say theres anything wrong with it unless it acts odd, not eating or hanging etc.

I think I may be worrying for nothing. I can't find any odd behaviour from the fish. It seems to be eating and swimming normally. I'll probably won't feed them for 2 days just in case.
