i've had my tank set up for a month now, and my ammonia has been pretty high over the past weeks, going from 0.5, and then it stayed at 1.0 for 2-3 weeks, then it jumped up to 2.0 last week, the highest i've ever seen it (but i only test every saturday), and when i tested today, my ammonia was down to 0.5 again, but my nitrite was up at 1.0. this is the first sign of any nitrite i've seen in the tank yet. i'm just happy the cycle is finally happening.

Congrats on the progress! Just keep an eye on the levels. Even if it did go back down a bit, 2 for ammonia is way high.

Congrats! Once step closer.

Are you cycling with fish? If so keep ammonia and nitrite as low as possible. Whenever you get readings above .25 ppm (or whatever your lowest test level is) do a water change.

If not, try to get the ammonia up to 3-5 ppm.
