We ordered a good sized log from ebay and can't get to sink what can I do to anchor it down so it won't float?

You can screw it to a chunk of slate, or pile something on top of it to keep it submerged while it soaks up water. Some people have had success screwing wood to a plastic tub, and then filling that up with sand or rocks.

yeah, i've piled rocks on mine b4 until they were waterlogged and then i could remove the rocks. i've also heard of people who put them in tubs full of water, put the top on (or something on top to keep the log submersed), and waited till it was waterlogged then, so when they put it in the tank, it was all good.

i used fishing line to tie mine to a large rock. i covered the rock it was tied to and most of the fishing line (to keep my fish from getting stuck in it) up with the gravel. you cant even see the line giong across the part of the log that exposes it since its clear. worked great.

I had a log that wouldn't sink, I had it soaking in a bucket for 6months.Even tried boiling it on several different occasions. Nthing seemed to work. I drilled some holes in places you wouldn't see them and soaked it for a bit longer. After drilling the holes it only took one more time to boiling it to sink.
Maybe try drilling holes into your log and soaking it for a while if you don't want to go the slate route.
Mine has been underwater for about 6 months and it is just beginning to sink.
What I did was epoxy a 4" X6" X1" block of steel to rust proof it(you could paint it), drill a hole through it, and screw it to one end of my log with a stainless steel screw and just let the other end float freely. You can see it and the steel block in the 'Enter my tank' link below.
