For the last couple of days one of my nerites has been spending a lot of time above the water line. My params are fine (ammonia/nitrites 0, nitrates<5)> Is this common behavior?

Have you done a water change? My regular snails hang above the waterline when it's time for a water change.

My zebra nerites do this all of the time.

My Zebra Nerite does it all the time too. Sometimes "Safari" even goes into the filter spout.

I was going to ask the same question. I just got 1 from MsJinkzd last week and it's doing the same thing.

Another reason to keep the water line down a couple of inches in the snail tank. I sometimes find mine on the glass canopy as well.

Oh, good. I was getting worried. Thanks everyone!
I almost lost a nerite if I hadn't noticed him going over the tank rim so quickly when I lifted the lid to feed them. They like to lounge above the waterline, at least some do.

I've seen Neritids scooting upstream along the edges of streams -- at times fully out of the water -- in Puerto Rico. This seems to be fairly commonplace behavior in the freshwater representatives of this group.
