If I were to add a couple of fertilizer tabs, that you put in your gravel, in with my power filter would this be an effective way to fertilize my tank?

I'm pretty sure that would lead to excess nutrients and cause algae to break out. You want liquid fertilizer for applications like that.

Fertilizer tabs should not be used in the filter, nor in the gravel of tanks with UGF/RUGF. The fertilizer tabs are designed to target the roots of the plant, and in the water column, they are not accessible to the roots, and the leaves don't make use of them. There are many liquid fertilizers that can be used, but with caution and research. Check out the sticky in the plant forum on ferts--it should help you out.
