Maybe someone can help me. I recently purchased a tank and it is cycling as we speak. The past few days I have hit all of my lfs's checking out the different cichlids looking for specifically bright colored ones. I have found a couple that I like but the tanks say "assorted africans" and the kids there don't seem to know exactly either. The first one is solid bright yellow with a black line across the very top of his top fin? And the other one is a light bluish color with what appears to be darker blue or black colored vertical lines on it's side. Now these are both around 2 inches or less and I know that their colors change with age and diet but I want to get them while they are small so I can watch them grow up. I also know that it's difficult for anyone to tell me exactly what they are without pics but any info can help. Thanks

I'd bet the yellow is an electric yellow lab. The blue one with stripes could be any one of several varieties in that color pattern.

Like gspille sated the yellow one is most likely Labidochromis Caeruleus, Electric Yellow Lab, and the blue one will require a picture to identify as there are many different ones.

Here's some pictures to help you. (Click Here) (http://www.tropicalfishandaquariums.com/AfricanCichlids/index.asp)

Thanks excuzzzeme thats a good link. They are the yellow lab and blue zebra that I was looking at, I hope they get along together in my 55gal. I sure wish I could find those blue ahli though, those look sharp.
