Does Hygro "Sunset" need more light than 1.3W/gal and liquid ferts? I have had 1 stem now for months and it has only grew about 3 inches and the top 2 inches has all the leaves. The rest is bare stem with the acception of 2 small lateral shoots near the bottom. Any reason for this? Does Hygro "Sunset" require special treatment that Hygro polysperma/difformis/"willow"/"tiger" doesn't?
Your growth rate is normal, you wont get any plant to grow really fast without Co2, proper lighting levels and ferts. In my experience, with full CO2, high light and ferts, its a decently fast grower, not the fastest but about average for a stem plant.

Hygros are still lower light plants, which are going to be slower growers than other plants. However, I've seen significantly faster results using Co2 and ferts compared to a do-nothing setup. Most hygros will develop the palm tree look where all the bottom leaves fall off...pretty normal.

I have 2 wpg and use DIY CO2 (which I'm pretty bad at remembering to switch out), no ferts, and mine goes nuts...I have a bush of it I need to trim at least every other week (weekly if the CO2 is fresh), and it keeps its leaves all the way down the stem. It's one of my favorite plants.

It is my fastest grower, requiring at the minimum weekly trimming.
Pressurized co2, PPS-Pro, high light.

If I remember right I got my Hygros from jm and the have covered the top of my ten gallon and I have cut it back and it is huge again in my 40 gallon. It has also grown back to cover the top of my 10 gallon again. I am running out of tanks to put it in.

I have 1 wpg nothing special except flourish and excel. Somewhere between 6 weeks and 2 months ago, I received 2 - 6" stems from BK. I now have 12 all about 8 - 12" tall with "branches". They are keeping their leaves. When they get so tall, I cut and replant about 1" from the last. I love them.
