I got Staghorn algae all over the inside of the clump of my Fissiden fontanus. I got about 650gph of flow in my tank and a Korilia Nano and I got no algae growing anywhere else in my tank at this time.
A month ago it was covered in thread algae and now there is no thread algae in my tank, it's now been replaced with very fine staghorn algae.
Not really growing on the top at all, it's growing underneath the surface of the large patch I have covering a rock.

What could be the cause of this?

Staghorn Algae
grows in long individual strands that form a few branches. It will grow close to the light source on equipment and plants. Strands can be pulled off the surface or in very bad cases the whole leaf should be discarded. Higher ammonia/ammonium levels (from overstocking or substrate disturbance) and low CO2 levels will favour this algae. It's been known that the Siamese Algae Eater will keep this algae in check. Nutrient control and healthy growing plants will limit Staghorn algae.

Also, a peroxide dip works wonders and saves a lot of time when it comes to manual removal (I had a similar issue with my weeping moss). In my case, it was caused by my husband way overfeeding the tank while I was away for a few days...had to do a few water changes and peroxide dip everything, but it hasn't come back. Have you changed/starting using ferts lately?
