Can anyone tell me what this is? It showed up in a coral shipment I received. Thanks,

Looks like it could be a spindly, sickly gorgonian of some sort?

Thanks, I was thinking the same thing. Do you think there is any hope of saving it?

Only one way to find out...just keep in mind that there are a few varieties that aren't photosynthetic so you may need to target feed it with phyto or something. It looks like the few polyps it has are out, so there might be some hope of nursing it back to health.

Thanks Sploke, I guess I'll mount it and see what happens. I don't think this is something that I really had in mind right now for corals.

Well, I mounted it on a coral plug and put in the tank. We'll see what happens from there. Anything special I should know about them, like lighting and water flow?

Thanks again!

It is definitely a gorgonian of some sort. To frag them, get some very sharp scissors and cut very slightly into healthy tissue above the dead spots. Then remove a small amount of tissue where you intend to place glue (otherwise, a spreading necrotic reaction will occur) and set the frag.

Lighting is probably immaterial for this species. You should, however, give it pretty decent water motion.

Thanks all.... It's mounted and some polyps have come out. Maybe it'll make it. I'll keep this up to date.
