Hi Friends,

Just wanted to know if I use a stem of Cabamba as floating plant ? Will the plant do well or will it die back ?

Kindly guide me...
Thanks and Regards

That works nice as a floater.

Hi there !

Thanks a lot for the kind reply. Somebody told me that they are rooting plants and will die very quickly if not planted and left as floaters. Is this true, or can I surely keep them just floating ? So I dont need to root them in the substrate ?

Kindly guide me...

Friends kindly reply... Will the broken leaves that float around, decay and harm the balance of the tank ?

take out the broken leaves. it should be able to grow as a floater, i think. try it. if it starts to look unhealthy then plant it but there's no harm in trying

I've had my cabomba as a floater for a couple months now... I just couldn't keep it in the gravel. I like it better like this anyway since it's in a fry tank. It seems to be doing well.

Hi Friends !

Thanks for the kind replies... I guess I'll leave the stems for a few days and see what happens... The problem is that the output of my 2 Eheim 2217's are sprayed on the water surface using spray bars and this causes a lot of leaves to get broken and float freely... Will the plant grow them back quickly ?

Also other than these 4 or 5 stems of cabamba, I dont have any other plant in the tank. Will the bioload of the tank be enough to feed these plants or is any fertilization required ? Kindly guide me...

What kind of lighting do you have? I've never been able to keep it green and bushy under really low light. If it's floating it may help with the increased light intensity, but I would count on it.
