The February meeting of the Capital Cichlid Association is on the 21st at 2pm. Please note this is not the usual Saturday. It is the 3rd Saturday of the month this time.

Our very own Mike Hill, Maddog10 on APF, will give a presentation on Photographing your fish. If you have a digital camera and want to take better pictures of your fish, here is the chance to get some pointers.

Our meetings have not only a speaker, and lots of fish people but also refreshments, a raffle and mini auction. These mini auctions include fish, and drygoods. Never know what you will find.

Check it out. This club draws people from several states. Why not be part of the fun.
There are always people there from the Monster Aquaria network. Sometimes the big man himself. :headbang2:

Hmm, I might check it out. This would be my first ever "fish meeting."

I don't own any Cichlids, though... Would I still be interested in coming?

Yes, I think you would. Often the auctions have plants, inverts, cories, etc. The speaker alone will be worth it. I will be there!

Cool! Well, maybe I'll see you there.

It'll be hard to miss the chick with the killer 'hawk. ;)

So how many AC folks turned up at the meeting today? We got there just in time for maddog's photography presentation. Would have been much sooner, but the mapquest directions were a bit misleading and we wasted nearly an hour trying to sort out the confusion. I wanted to stay for the auction but had to scoot back up the road. I had a shipment of marmokrebs overdue, and naturally the postman was running late today. I had expected them to arrive well before I had to head out for the meeting. I swapped off my spare chanchito's and a bag of Endler's for a nice group of juvie ruby green Hap's.

I was easy to spot too, hobbling around on a crutch. At least I'm down to 1 now, and won't need it in a few more weeks with any luck.

I've only made to to a few meetings over the past couple years (I'm usually working on the Saturday it's happening) but I've never seen such a crowd, or so much stuff up for auction. Did you bring home any goodies?

I won a raffle package. I got a 20gallon sponge filter, which is great because I was looking into getting one for a grow-out tank anyways, along with some dechlorinatior and stuff.

I bid on some of msjinkzd's brigs, but this one lady there (I think her name was Marge) wouldn't back off! She ended up winning them for 9 or 10 dollars each.

This was my first "fish meeting" ever, and I was a little shell-shocked by the sheer amount of fish stuff and fish people that were there. That, along with not knowing anyone, made me a little shy. Everyone seemed to know each other there.

Now that I got my first-time jitters out of the way, I'm looking forward to the next one!

We don't really all know each other, people are just that friendly! There was a huge turnout from the Lancaster Club there, as well as a bunch of MFK and AC members.

I got some meteor white clouds, some diamond tetras, some white worm cultures and a few other goodies. If only I had more available tank space without super agressive critters! It was amazing the amount of stuff for the "mini" auction. Next time say hi!

LOL, I think I was bidding against her at the last meeting I attended. I brought home a 29 that looks new along with a wrought-iron stand and standard hood/light for $45. I was beginning to wonder if she had put it up for auction after she muttered "How high is this tank going to go?"... Shortly after that she won a bag of plants, and at the end of the auction made the comment "I almost didn't buy ANYthing.", as if she simply DOESN'T attend a meeting without winning something in the auction.
Just the impression I got anyway, she seems like one of those competitive bidders who gets carried away. I always decide what's the most I'm willing to spend, and don't let myself get carried away by the desire to WIN.
If I hadn't been late to start with (and needing to rush back home) I would have been more sociable. Becka insisted on coming along to carry the box of fish, so there wasn't anyone to bring in the mail or take the dogs out. It's a good thing she did come along, since she was the one who sorted out the confusion with the mapquest directions. Even w/out taking the wrong exit it's a 2.5 hour trip each way for me.

LOL
That was quite at turn out. I counted 93 adults plus the kids.
We get much bigger and were gonna have to rent a Stadium. lol
Kidding
That was the biggest turn out yet.
Yes a lot of us know each other but there are always lots of new people to meet. I try to get around but with all my responsibilities its hard.
The "mini auction" had a large turn out. Between 140 and 160 items. I dont remember which they said. It was a little too big. Took too long but a lot of people stayed to the end.

Glad you all had fun.
