Three weeks ago I switched out the substrate in my tank from regular gravel to Eco-Complete. The tank had been up and running for a couple of years prior to that. Thankfully I didn't get a mini cycle at all, I suspect because I also planted it when I did the overhaul.
In the last week I've started seeing some brown diatoms on my anubias and a little bit on my glass. I'm dosing Flourish once a week and dosing Excel daily, with a new 65w cf fixture and a 9 hour photo period. I know it's normal to get diatoms with new tanks, is this the same phenomenon even though the only thing new in the tank is the substrate? Thanks!
