should i test for calcium in a fowlr tank

It is good for general maintenance and helps when growing coralline algae (decorative purple algae on live rock). The bottom line is that you should test for calcium if you add it, though--appropriate levels range from 380-450 ppm of Ca++. More important than calcium is alkalinity, which you should test for and can be boosted with plain baking soda (if low). http://reef.diesyst.com/flashcalc/flashcalc.html has a calculator you can use to estimate amounts needed. Anywhere from 7-12 dKH of alkalinity is appropriate. Alkalinity should be checked anywhere from weekly to every couple of weeks, though weekly testing is recommended at first. Calcium can be checked less often.
Dont really see much point in a FOWLR tank as there is no corals to suck up the calcium...As a range, anywhere between 350 and 450 is acceptable..
Yah... keeping them managed will help promote our favorite algae ..Coraline.
But for the most part Calc supports clams, some algae types, and corals...
question, For a FOWLR should I be testing for anything other than Ammonia, Nitrite, Nitrate, PH and Alk? Thats all the tests I have, is there anything else which you think is really necessary (for no corals that is)
