Before I go out and stock my tank I want to get a better idea of what foods and feeding rituals would work best for my fish selection.

I'm planning on the following:

4 x dwarf gourami (neons, or flame maybe)
10 x Lemon Tetra
3 x Yoyo Loach

What should i be looking at for food. I know they all take staple flake diet, with some bloodworms, brine shrimp, (algae wafers and some fresh veggies for the yoyo's as a treat). I know that variety is a good idea and also have a "diet day" so to speak maybe once or twice a week.

Ok I think u get the general idea.

I just want to find out what people with these fish do as far as feeding before i go to my LFS. They are very good (or appear to be when i've spoken to them, and their fish look very healthy on display) just thought i'd ask the experts here first.

Thanks in advance

John

Only advice I can add is to purchase the smallest quantity of flake food you can. It begins to lose nutritional value as soon as you open it (oxidizing starts) and within about a month, it won't be providing much in the way of soluble vitamins like vitamin C.

For adult fish, I tend to feed every other day instead of daily with a skip day. Juvenile fish do need to be fed daily in order to put on the best growth. I like the froze foods--they seem to entice the fish more than the freeze dried stuff.

I would also suggest that if you are going to have 4 gouramis then you might want to have some plants, either real or fake. This will help to break up sight lines and lessen aggression.

Dunno bout Dwarfs but my blue gouramis tear up boiled lettuce, cucumber, zuchinni, any veggie and DONT share it. Those loaches will like it

I'd suggest getting some of the sinking tablets for bottom feeders instead of algae wafers, which are more for pl*cos. My loaches don't care much for vegetables, but then I can't even get my Ottos to touch veggies, so... Frozen bloodworm is definitely a hit w/ the loaches, as well.

My experience w/ tetras suggests that they'll try to eat anything you give them, and I've never had gouramis. Hopefully they're not as picky as bettas! :P
