Quick question about gluing coral to rock. How long can coral be out of water so that they can be attached to rock, or can you add super glue gel to the bottom of the coral or plug and then stick it to the rock without removing the rock from the tank?

I've had coral out of water for up to half an hour or so if I'm taking a bunch of frags at once. Super glue will cure underwater though, so you can glue a frag to a plug out of water, and also put a glop of glue on the bottom of the plug, and just glue it to the rock in place in the tank, underwater.

Thanks Matt. That would save on trying to move the scape rocks and then get them back into place. I've got to cut the stems off the plugs so I can get them to fit closer to the rocks. I've got some snails that love to move whatever they can to do their job and I've found a few frags on the bottom.

Corals can be out of water for hours. They release a special slime coating that protects them from drying out, a wet piece of newspaper, cloth or something over them is a good idea however.

On the reef corals are exposed to direct sun, heat, rain during low tide so they have developed ways of handling it. Obviously if they are in good condition they will handle being out of the water better.

I hope to be able detach the coral from the rock at a later date. Otherwise I'll have to try and fit it in when I do the aquascaping in my display tank.
