hey everyone. i am thinking about putting in a co2 setup for my 46g bowfront tank. it is fairly lightly planted right now. i have a crypt a couple anubias some lutea and some water sprite. im also planning on adding another anubia or two and some more lutea. i have a diy light setup with about 110w. i havent started adding fertilizers but will be with some co2. or thats the plan anyways. so ive been looking at the diy stuff because my lighting seems to be working well but im leaning towards just buying a setup only i dont know what i need or what brands are popular. i got good advice on setting up the rest of my tank and could def use some more on this. thanks for any help

your best bet is to buy pressurized. not only does it save money over time it saves you a lot of time too. for co2 tank i would check the local welding shops. as for regulators you can pick up a cheap one on ebay or buy a better one from like rex grigg or aquariumplants.com.

have you tried any other med light plants? the ones you have are mostly slow growers though the extra light and co2 would help some you will see even better growth from some of the med light plants.

yeah this is my first crack at a planted tank so i went with slow growing low light plants. my crypt and anubia are doing ok i think.. i have 0 plant experience but they are both growing new leaves and they have been planted abut a month. i cant beleive water sprite is considered slow cause its growing like a weed in my tank. when i got it was broken into pieces and not knowing anything i planted every piece that looked growable and they all did. its bright and bushy. the other thing was because my light is diy its not quite as efficient as it could be. so the effective watts would be less. how much im not sure. any suggestions on med light plants? my lfs has some swords i was looking at the other day. as for what else they have im not too sure.

also for the co2 setup is that all i need? i was looking at regulators online and i think i found a decent one. finding a tank should be no problem here. what about a diffuser? if i ran it into my filter intake would that work well enough? i have a rena xp3 canister. sorry if my questions make no sense.

I picked up the THIS package from Drs Foster Smith. (couldn't afford the full auto package).

It does a pretty good job.. I placed the glass diffuser underneath the intake tube for my eheim. Be on the lookout though, after a couple days, I noticed that co2 bubbles were getting built up inside the cannister, it never got air locked, but you I did get a nice co2 gas discharge from the spill bar every now and then.. i solved this by sliding the diffuser so that about half of the bubbles got sucked into the intake tube, the other half floated to the top of the tank.
