I got this Tiger Lotus from the lfs. Usually it comes with some roots and a bunch of stems held in a plastic pot. I saw this one with its bulb and after some convincing he let me have it. I've put it in my tank and its growing well, with lots of new roots and new shoots. But the roots are not from the bulb. They are from a 'node' some distance away. The lfs guy told me they never sell the bulb. They usually cut the main 'stem' off just below that node and sell the top part and keep the bulb.

I would like some advice on this. Should I cut it off and plant the roots in the gravel? Or should I just leave it like that?

My lotus' do that as well. What I do is just plant the roots and leave the bulb laying next to it attached and you will eventually have another plant come out of the bulb. Right now I have 3 lotus growing out of the same bulb. That is probaly the reason that the lfs keeps the bulb b/c it will keep producing plants to sell yet they keep the bulb to keep from buying more lotus's to sell.
