Ok I bought this fish like this and wasnt aware until recently that its not supposed to look like this. Anything I should do about this?

It may not grow back, depending on how deep it is - and it looks pretty deep. If it gets down to the muscle it won't grow back, however most torn fins do grow back eventually. But, if you've had it for awhile and have not seen any improvement or any deterioration in the state of the fin, it's probably going to stay that way. It shouldn't cause him any problems.

Its pretty much all the way down. I have had him a little over a week with no sign of improvement. I was more or less worried it would be an issue.

it won't affect him physically, just aesthetically. fish can really do some miracle healing sometimes though. i had one male Honduran red point that had been attacked by another male - his tail was gone, just a stump of flesh left, no fin at all, and the rear of the dorsal fin was damaged as well, down to the back of the fish. it took 2-3 months, but now you'd never ever know he'd been injured - full tail, no scarring, long perfect streamer coming from the once-missing dorsal. keep the water very very clean, and feed high-quality protein.
