cotton ball

i need help .trying to figure out what this is. looks like little cotton balls in my reef tank. :confused:
 
Maybe they are balls of cotton.

They could possibly be sponges... there's a type of white sponge that I could see people describing as a cotton ball. Try an image search online for "pineapple sponge" to find a picture of them.
 
thas kinda what it looks like. they usual get about dime size & smaller. but i will take a look thanks for the info
