I've got a couple questions. I have 6 kribs in my community tank. I got all of them from a breeder through Aquabid. It looks like I've got 3 males and 3 females, but they move around so much that I'm not sure that I'm not just counting the sames ones over and over, lol.

Anyway, I'm hoping to have one pair in there eventually, but since they all move around so much and don't seem to have a particular territory, how can I tell which ones have paired up? Also, once I figure that out, how can I net the other 4 without disturbing my decor or accidentally netting the wrong fish?

I recently moved them from a couple smaller tanks into the 75g community, and in both tanks, they were the hardest fish to catch!

I know that they will get more colorful when it is time to breed, and I'm wondering if I'm seeing that in one of my females. She always has a nice pink belly spot, but several times I've seen her belly spot darken to an almost purple red and the surrounding belly (which is normally sorta pearly white) turns very dark grey-purple. The first time that happened I was a little freaked out since the dark belly thing happens to my puffer when he's stressed or sick. But she seemed just fine, acting normally. A few minutes later (okay, maybe closer to an hour), I checked again and she was back to her normal coloring. I have several caves in there for them to choose from, and this female and the male that I *think* have paired up seem to have picked the one that is hardest to see into. I can see one or both go into it, but I can't see enough to tell whether or not she's laid any eggs. I'm thinking that's okay since they seem to feel secure with that. Plus, I'm not really purposefully breeding them, just hoping to see a few fry and maybe sell them to the lfs.

I haven't decided yet on whether I'll keep the other 4 kribs in other tanks or just sell them to the lfs.

You'll know for certain when they pair off as they will defend their territory from any who invade it. The best way to make sure you have the right fish is to watch them daily and get to where you can identify each of the six fish no matter where they are in the tank.

if they share a cave, they're pretty much paired up. kribs that aren't paired up usally wont' share anything. But dark bellies are a good thing goodluck, yes they are hard to catch.

Interesting. I'll have to keep a closer eye on that tank, I guess.

Hey, yeah you'll be able to tell if you've got a male or a female pretty easily. Males have an eyespot on their back fin, and are usually a little less colorful. Your female depending on what kind of krib's you have should have more vibrant colors, also when the female is ready to spawn her underside will get to an almost crimson color, so if yours is lookin like that you'll eventually have a bunch of fry.

Good Luck, Riley
