I'm helping a friend set up what will either be a 55 or 75 gallon, depending on monetary situations. Right now he's got an EBJD lined up for the tank and perhaps a blue lobster. What are some other suitable tank mates?

Typically a 50 gallon is recommended for keeping a solo EBJD. In a 75 gallon you might be able to add a second fish of similar size and temperament. Maybe a Blue Acara.

If you go with the 75 you could add a couple of other cichlids of similar size like severums, maybe some synodontis or pictus cats for the bottom or a larger pleco.

Really depends on if he is going with the 55g or the 75g? 55g he can stock the EBJD and 2-3 other small to medium sized Cichlids. In the 75g he can do the EBJD and and 2-3 smaller cichlids and maybe a 1-2 medium sized Cichlids? Does he want it planted? Does he want more Cichlids or more of a community setup with the EBJD as the centerpiece.

He'd probably prefer a more community setup. Right now he's leaning towards a 55 set up, but that could change. What are some 55 gallon options?
