well i've got my python built now, and i tried it out real quick (probably not a fair trial) and i noticed a few things:

1.) crappy suction! i was draining it into a sink on the same floor as my tank, and there was barely any suction. it barely lifted even the smallest debris from the gravel. to solve this problem, i think i am going to drain it into a sink in the basement.

2.) when i was draining, i stopped after a short while (i only wanted to test it out) and when i went to turn off the faucet after turning off the shutoff valve at the gravel vac end, the utility sink was filling up with water! there was a few inches of water that had collected in the sink. the drain was not obstructed at all. whats up with this?

3.) water splashed all over the place from the faucet valve when i was draining. is this normal or is there something loose in there?

Whatever is wrong with your sink is not a python problem. Bad siphon could be due to too little water pressure going through the venturi. Water splashing all over sounds like loose connection or missing the rubber gaskets in the adapters. If either one causing the "leak" it will also affect the siphon.

the faucet valve pump thing came with two gaskets. i put one gasket in where the thing screws onto the faucet. where should the other one go?

my hose also came w/ a gasket, where does that go?

gaskets/o-rings typically go where ever there's a female connection. You need one where the hose meets the pump, and where the pump meets the faucet.

the water is not spraying out of a connection, the water is spraying out of the valve at the bottom of the pump.

you know how when you pull the valve down to the suction position there is a small crack between the body of the pump and the piece that goes down? well water is spraying out of there.
