Buy a massive house and have a massive room full to the brim with fish tanks. I would also have a seperate building which has like a 1000 gallon fish tank.

I'd buy a new house $400,000
WIth a basement, then turn a whole room into a walk in fish tank. A shark tank. Kinda like the one at atlanta aquarium only not a tube.

A million dollars really isn't all that much. It's not enough to retire on unless you are pretty frugal and don't splurge. Assuming that the taxes on it (30% or so) are already paid. I would:

A) Pay all debts including wife's student loans
B) Put about $250,000 in school/trust fund for my kid
C) Put a down payment on castle (about 3500 square feet on 4 acres near Austin)
D) Get 2 $10,000 prepaid debit cards (one for me, one for my wife)... That's our play money.
E) Put the rest in a high yield bond fund.

I have 2 ideas...
#1.

Go put 250,000 down on a new yacht. cut the GPS locater wires, and remove. toss in ocean. dissappear for a very long time. blow the rest on strippers and booze.

#2.
ya know screw it, I like option #1...

I'm laughing at all those who want the huge 1000 gallon plus tanks and exotic fish. How do you plan on the upkeep after the million is gone?

I'd take the mill and buy a decent house, thankfully its pretty cheap here. I could get a 3000 sq ft house and 10 acres for 300 gs easy. All the overprice homes down here are because ppl pay 150 gs for a quarter acre in a nice subdivison.

Buy a couple of nice 30 g cars, a boat, set the kids up with 50 gs each and take a nice vacation. Put the rest in Gold until the economy starts to turn around then buy in low to all the major stocks that HAVE to rebound back to what they were before the collapse.

I would...

1. Buy a nice house.. not huge but something for around 100 grand or so

2. Invest about 400 grand in the stock market while its low.. or buy some houses and sit on them untill the market turns around

3. buy a few 100g tanks to put into the house.. something not that hard to maintain

4. Save 300grand for my taxes next year when I have to pay for winning the million lol

hmmm... don't think a million bucks will even get you close -- even in today's real estate market! ;)

Buy a bar and a LFS. Run the LFS to keep myself busy with a "hobby" and the bar is for "socializing" at my own place.

Haha that's a great idea. Except the cost of something even 1/4 the size of the oceanarium in Atlanta would make your $400,000 house investment nothing in comparison.

Yup, there was a house just down the street from me that a couple years ago was on the market for about $700,000, I think someone bought it for around $500,000 in the end, unfortunately they lost it to foreclosure and it recently sold for about $300,000.

I feel bad for people losing their homes etc, but if I could afford it I really would be sitting on a bunch of property right now.
