They can tolerate some zucchini, squash and some cucumber but as serving, just not as a staple you will need to add some protein as well..

Also Brussels sprouts is a good source.. you can buy fresh Brussels freeze them and when ready to feed pop them in the tank it will take a hour or so to drop to the bottom and the fish can eat at it for a bit and the great thing about Brussels is when they go bad they float back up and all you have to do is reach in take it out and pop in another..

Most health food stores sell kelp. If your stick this on a clip and let it drop to the bottom your fish should tear it up... good for them also.

I read an AC a month or two ago about feeding them shelled frozen peas. I've tried them and my fish love 'em! Kind of a PITA shelling them but it only takes a few minutes.

There are a few, zucchini, spinach (in small amounts, and not on a regular basis), shaved peas, broccoli and bananas (if you are processing the food into a home made frozen formula), and oranges (great for vitamin c supplementation)

why not just buy them pre-shelled?

You can't. "Shelled" in this context means with the skin on each individual pea removed.

They eat fruit too? I didn't know that. Do you throw in the broccoli in the form of little flowerettes?

When I use broccoli and bananas i mix it in a processor with things like prawns and peas to make a frozen formula.

With things like oranges. I take a slice of an orange (leave the cork on) and let it float in the water. That way it wont bob around the tank and get lost somewhere. Some fish will eat it right off the bat, others might take a few feedings for them tor ecognise it as food.
