Does anyone know which tanks are better for fish? Is it better to have a long tank or a wide tall tank? do most fish like to stay on the bottom and middle are of a tank or do they like to swim up higher? -Nina

Long tanks are better. Tall tanks have less surface area and less surface area means less carbon dioxide/ oxygen exchange.

The size of a tank is a function of the fish you want to keep. Different fish will tend to inhabit different areas of a tank. obviously small fish can be kept in a smaller tank while larger fish need a bigger space.

While surface area is a factor in gas exchange, it is not the only factor. Choice of fitration and the use of live plants will change the number of fish you can keep in a given tank.

There is no such thing as an idea size or shape tank, rather different tanks will be suited to different purposes. The only piece of advice I can offer is the bigger your tank, the more fish you can have, so always go bigger when you can.
