Hello i just bought 3 small clown loaches and 2 small pictus cats for my new 55 gal tank which is cycled etc - currently they are in my 20 gal Q tank - i didnt notice till i got home but the very ends of the loaches tails are sligthly ragged little tiny bits missing or hacked looking - coul this be from when they got shipped or maybe something was nipping them or is it pre stages of fin rot? i don't think it's fin rot cause it looks very slight, but i would like your opinions on identifying possible fin rot - also the pictus cats seem to be chasing each other around - one is smaller than the other the bigger one seems to chase the small one off - although when i first put them in the tank the were swimming in a circular motion with each other (mating ritual maybe???) but that has stopped now the big one just gives a quick chase - coul i have just gotten an aggressive fish shoul i return it for another one thats a little smaller? My main concern is that i have 3 albino cories in my 55 that have been together for a while i was told the pictus shoulnt bother them - but is this accurate? i like the pictus a lot but will not put my cories in danger - can i keep them together or shoul i return the pictus -either way i plan on beefing the cories up to a 6 or 9 fish school so they feel safer -
thank you for your opinions

I just put 2 pictus in my recently cycld 55g...
I think they are very territorial, they establish their territory
agressively it seems. Also in the tank are 2 siamese algae eatrs
and 2 pangasius. After 2 days, the pictus are calming down, they rarely disturb the siamese algaes, but they do bother the larger
pangasius. Probably cause larger fish are more competetive for territory, food, dominance, etc...and ofcourse pictus are predatory!

Anyone with suggestions on other compatible fish I might want to consider for my 55?

the pictus are predatory and might eat smaller fish which might include the cories........ i would recommend going with one or the other. the cories and the loaches would do good together by themselves tho. they are both pretty docile and would get along good together would be my guess.

snookers: you should "lose" the pangasius, they will outgrow any tank you're liable to have. full grown adults can hit 50ish inches. they are also very skittish and will "warp" *into* the glass at the other end of the tank if you startle them, with no regard for the impact. or they will lie dead on the bottom...... they are also schooling fish when they're young.....
