Im making my pond on my patio and its right by my roof(i dont have gutters yet becuase we are remodeling the house and we havent gotten there yet) and i think there would be alot of runoff from the roof and would that affect the water pars.? will the rain pick up any contamanents and bring them into the pond? Thanks

Definitely put up a rain gutter. Minor splashing probably won't be too much of a problem, but with a pond that small I'd keep it to a minimum. Rain gutters! Or add a pond cover/umbrella to shield the pond.

do you think if i put chemi-pure or charcole in the filter it will take out all the tar and things?

NO. You need to prevent the chemicals from getting in the water, not just filter them out. The filter's job is only to keep the water clean and remove ammonia and nitrates. It won't take out nasty roofing chemicals before they poison the pond.

I agree completely , one thing you might do is slide and glue a metal rain diverter under your tiles above the pond area, this wont stop all the water run off , but it will divert most to one side or the other. The diverter is usually a piece of sheet metal in the shape of the letter L about 3-4 inches up and back and cut to the length you need. This is sometimes used over doors or entry,s before a patio cover is installed.
