Hi

I have a tank of cichlids and I am going to buy a breeding pair of red dragons. IS this a good idea, what fish will they breed around and how big shuld the tank be?

If anyone could help me that would be great.

Regards

Not hard, but you don't want to be around when the eggs hatch because even if the parents are tame the hatchlings can't control their flame.

LOL Karl!

A 75g would be my suggestion when you attempt to breed the flowerhorns. There is enough space to avoid the pair from fighting violently resulting in serious injuries.

Are you sure they're a confirmed breeding pair? Flowerhorns are usually sterile. Definitely would want a 75, and one or two similar size (and temprament) cichlids for target fish to reinforce the bond between the breeding pair. Set up/furnish the tank so that the target fish have somewhere to retreat to, far enough away from the breeding site that they don't get killed. (Flowerpot/breeding cave on one end of tank with a sight break somewhere in the middle.)
