do you already have a setup to breed them in or are you looking for step by step instructions to start one?

Yes I've bred them before and I will never do it again. Blaptica dubia is the way to go.

I can't imagine breeding crickets. I have so many loose in my house from simply feeding...*cringe* I don't want to think about how many I'd have running around if I were breeding them. (Plus, large quantities of crickets can really start to stink.)

But, since you asked: http://www.anapsid.org/crickets.html

That's the main reason why I won't breed them anymore. They smell awful.

Count me as a third former cricket breeder, same reason as the others, I won't house more a dew days worth at a time in winter, even short term groups...yuck.:barf:The dubia roaches - good quality easy choice for most herps, wax worms also good - but not daily for a gecko...best advice I have for smell management - never did manage to do much more than limit the # of rooms in the house that smelled from those things - multiple housing containers and clean them daily - seriously a colony of +/- 50 crickets in a 35 gallon tote smelled horrid within 24 hours.

I agree with vicious they smell so bad. I'm usually the unlucky one at work that has to clean out the cricket bins. Then there is the noise. I don't mind a few at home but a whole bin would drive me nuts. That's why when I buy them we try and fed them right away to our animals. Last week we thought that we would wait to the next day and feed the tarantulas (which we do often) and all 100 large crickets were died. They stunk up the whole basement.

Vicious, after this weekend I actually thought about a roach colony.....but then again it's more work for me not the person who wants them (hubby) so I decided against it.

They're really not that much work at all. You just need to feed them and keep them warm and that's about it. They do the rest and the best part: no smell! :)

One of these days I'm going to finally talk you into them. ;)
