the nasty looking white thing in the middle is a panty hose full of dead shrimp - 2 weeks into a fishless cycle; currently reading 0.1 ppm ammonia, 0.5 nitrite, 5 nitrate
water is cloudy in this image, I expect it to clear once the cycle is complete and I turn on the mechanical filters (biowheels only running now)
All the rockwork is custom (pcv, gravel, and silicone)

Not enough rocks for Africans, CA or SA would be better suited to that layout.

75 Gallons is large enough for Africans. You could do 6 Copadichromis Borleyi (6"), or 10-12 Labs (+/-4")(Yellow or blue), Demason's Cichlid (+/-5") Zebra (Black)Convicts, Pink Cons . . . . . .almost any Mbuna. Just make some caves for them.
New World:
1 Oscar with a common pleco, tinfoil barbs, 3-6 Bala Sharks, 12 pterophyllum scalare (angelfish). Those all would do well with large swimming area.

For how long do you think they'd "do well" in a 75 before outgrowing the tank?

I think he is separating the stocking suggestions by the comma, not all of that in the tank, just any one of those selections.

3-6 bala sharks would need 180 gallons by the time they're full grown...

you could do an Oscar (not with a common pleco-most would get too large)
a single or 2 tin foils(they get pretty bit at about 12")
bala's ...hmm prob not
definitely not 12 P.Scalare unless you plan on moving them as with 12 you stand a pretty good chance of pairs forming..short term you could pull it off..
long term ..think much larger tank
if you got 5-6 that would get along fine you may be ok. and schools of angels have worked in large tanks(read 150+) as pairs could move off and establish territory.
angels actually school fairly well
I just wouldn't try it in a 75 ;)

If you want some rare cichlids that won't outgrow the tank I have some extra chanchito's on hand that would love a new tank to pair off and spawn in. Once you have an established breeding pair you could swap off the other 3 for something else at you lfs.
