So....my daughter wants a guppy. I'm fine with that, I was going to set her up with a small tank, but then I thought why not stick it in my 10 gal with the cories. So I did some information gathering and found that guppies should be fed 2 or 3 times a day. I'm wondering about this because I've always fed all of my fish every other day from common tetras to my exotic rope fish. Do guppies really need to eat all of the time, and does that explain why the last time I had a guppy it kept eating my tetras???

Guppies expend a lot of energy and eat constantly. That's just their nature. I found that feeding 2X a day is best for mine. A better quality food should be used for them. Cheap food creates health problems for them including bent spines among other problems.

Same for me - I never really had to feed any fishes more than once per day and also fast one day per week. This scheme as always worked for me.

Exception is the fry grow out tank which has a totally different requirement of course.

Once a day works for my small bodied active fish. As noted, fry are a different story.

My guppies eat once a day, just as everyone else in their community tank. When I have fry in a different tank I feed them 3-4 times a day. All male do make a beautiful tank but fry are always fun. My kids love watch the life cylce. If you do decide to get both males and females, remember the 2-3 females to every male ratio so that the females aren't stressed to death by the males.

Ok - sounds good, I'll see how they do with 1 - 2 times a day and an occational fast.

I doubt I'll be dealing with fry because I will be using a 10 gallon tank that already has 2 cories in it. Although I'm sure if I put them in the 37 gallon tank I would have room to breed them...and the rope fish would love to help out with the fry I am sure. :)

Guppies expend a lot of energy. Although I have mostly Chiclids I have always fed my fish three times a day.

Don't think for a second that a 10gal is too small. They will breed in a rain drop if given the chance! All my guppies are in a 10 gallon with a cory and I am forever moving fry to the grow-out tank, giving them away, or turning them into guppy-treats for the cichlids.
