Hi, I've finally got around to setting up my 75 gal again. For a long time it held a leopard gecko, he got evicted, and moved to 20 gal. I have a lonely bluegill moving in that my son caught last summer. Gonna let tank cycle a coulpe of weeks with him in it, then probably put in an oscar and pleco. I've got 2 emporer 400's on the back, one sounds like a concrete crusher, talked to pet shop guy, he said to put thin layer of vaseline in magnet, no luck. Probably gonna get my canister filter running again, I thinks it's the marineland or penguin Pro 350. That thing is a pain tho.

I also have a 55 gal running that someone gave me, nothing fancy just some Danio's, Neon's, Glass catfish, Cory cat, and some Chinese algea eaters. It's my wifes tank basically, she picked them all out, I just clean it.

Any input on the concrete crusher would be much appeciated. Thanks:headbang2:

Welcome to AC!

What is the substrate? Did you try cleaning around the impellar to make sure there isn't anything stuck in there.

Welcome to the group.

I have a pair of Emp 400's on my 90 that houses a pleco, Oscar and 1 pink convict. The pair of them work well but I think to use just 1 it would be overwhelmed. First I suggest replacing the impeller and if that doesn't work then the energizer as well. There is nothing more to be replaced. You might want to comparison shop parts or consider a new filter as they are not expensive when on sale.

Welcome to AC!! Concerning the emperor 400--have you taken the intake apart to take a look at the impeller? Could be something wrapped around the impeller or something in the hole where the impeller sits. ( I take it you may have already looked at the impeller as you were speaking about the magnets?) Also you may want to check the plastic cups the biowheels sit in. Sometimes snails/crud can build up in them and it slows the wheel down and/or causes noise. You can put some vasoline on the biowheel stems and this should provide some lubrication for the wheel.

:swear:Thanks all for replying, I have taken it apart numerous times and even went so far as to clean the whole thing with q-tips. I cleaned it better than I clean my M-16 (grrr).
Still grinding, Im gonna get something else, then smash emporer in to a thousand little pieces. Then laugh in such a manner that the neighbors will call MP's.:evil_lol:
