Over the past 2 months I've had 3 Bronze Corys get stuck on an Aqua Clear 110 intake. Two were DOA, but I caught the 3rd one quicky and he's now swimming around in a 10 gallon QT.... I have my doubts that he'll make it, but I'm hoping for the best.
All seemed healthy and were full grown. They were all over a year old and the last one I've had close to 2 years. It's my belief that a healthy fish should be strong enough to not get stuck.... but Corys aren't the best swimmers and the AC 110 is a powerful filter.
Has anyone else had this problem? I was thinking of putting an AC media sponge on the intake of the 110's to help defuse the suction, but I come back to thinking a healthy fish shouldn't get stuck in the first place.
This is in my 180 which is an established tank with 2 AC 110's and a XP3 filter.
Ammonia is 0
Nitrites are 0
Nitrates are 30 ....my tap water contains nitrates and I can't them get below 10.
PH is high around 7.8
I change 100 gallons every 10 days with a full gravel vac and the other residents are in my signature.
All my other fish are healthy. I should add that a pair of Angles took out a 3rd two weeks ago when they were guarding eggs and I haven't see any aggression when there's no eggs with them or any other fish. All the Corys that were stuck didn't seem to have any visable injuries or show any sign of illness.
Has anyone else had a problem like this and if you did, how'd you solve it.
Thanks,
