Hey guys ok I have been searching websites for a 10g QT and also went to my LFS. The LFS has a 10g tank with hood for like 29.00 included everything only thing I don't like is the filter they include. I would get something different I like the whisper filters the waterfall type ones. I have a filter sponge in my 36g cannister soaking up bacteria so that I can transfer that media over once I get the aquarium all set up.

I also checked out websites but couldn't really find anything that was reasonable this is only going to be a QT. I have serious MTS already taking care of the 4 tanks I already have so this one is only for new fish or sick ones and the tank will be broked down once all fish are QT deemed healthy and transferred to my 36g. Can anyone suggest a website that has reasonably priced QT or should I just go with the LFS offering?

I know there are some brands that are better than others. I just would like to know besides whisper can anyone suggest another type of filter for a 10g. I have 2 whisper tanks and an eclipse 3g does eclipse make 10g tanks? My 36g has a penguin 200 with biowheel do they make filters for a 10g? Any advise would be greatly appreciated since in the next few weeks would like to get the QT set it up and add the fish I know I should have it up and going for atleast a week to get the bacteria going. Sorry this is so long.

I believe eclipse makes a 10g hood, but I find them rather expensive. I'm sure you can find a 10 gallon HOB filter from just about any brand. If not, just buy one for a 20g and then you have some extra filtration. Or you can do it my way, and buy your tank off craigslist. I bet you can find a full setup for like 15-20 bucks, maybe even with some fish you can sell back to the LFS and get your money back.

aqua clear makes pretty good, inexpensive hob filters

What about the aquarium in general any websites to find good brands reasonably priced? I am leary about craig's list the tanks are usually used by someone else who wants to sell it right? I did a search there in NY and found nothing. I am also leary about buying something I can't actually see beforehand.

You can pick up a new 10 gallon tank pretty cheap, $30 for the setup w/hood isn't bad even if you don't like the filter. An aquaclear 20 (formerly mini) would be more than enough for a 10. You could simply use an air-driven sponge filter for a QT tank, but the hob is handy for using carbon to remove meds if you need to dose fish in QT.

$5 clear plastic 12-gallon storage container and a sponge filter? Can't get much cheaper than that. Will hold ~8G of water easy...and has a top.

You could run the sponge filter in an established tank for a day or two to seed it.

If it's just a QT, why not 4 or 5 gallon? I have a clear plastic "hanging file" box that holds~4G and is easy to store when not in use. A smaller tank is easier to do WCs in too. Remove meds? Two ~80% WCs..

I wouldn't worry about lighting it.

I would rather go larger than smaller actually. I tried to use a 2.5g as a QT and it was just ridiculous the fish never made it. The tank now houses a betta and he is doing great. The problem with the 2.5g as a QT is I was using it to treat a sick fish and the problem is if you get more than one fish or more than one fish that is sick than you have a problem if the tank is smaller. I was told to get atleast a 10g and I am planning to increase the schools of certain fish in my 36g a bit so I need a bigger tank than a 5g. I don't mind the wc's believe me I am used to it since I have several tanks including the 36g. I think I just might go for the 10g I saw at the LFS it came with the hood and for $ 29.00 it is cheaper than some I saw online thanks for the advise on the filters too. Advise appreciated :).

Yea I would go with that LFS tank. You know you can pick up a empty 10gal. aquarium from Wal-mart for like 10-12 dollars. There back in the fish section of corse. It doesn't come with anything, just the tank.

If you don't want to keep it up and running (and with some critter in there to keep the filter fed) then your best bet is to keep a spare sponge filter running in one of your other tanks and move it over.

Some easily removed shelter is good, too, since it'll keep the fish from being too stressed when they're already weakened. I use large pieces of broken clay pots in my 10G - when it comes time to catch the fish out of QT, they're easy to remove.

I got a trio of ten gallons with eclipse 1 hoods (they are great)

One of them is a tank for three dwarf puffers another is for three dwarf frogs, The third is my second quarantine tank I got a 10 and a 20 quarantine. One for the bigger fish the ten for the smaller ofcourse. You will like the hood filter built in the eclipse its awesome it even has a nice lighting system and a bio wheel.
