Hi, since this seems to be the forum for non aquatic stuff, I'd like to introduce my two standard donkeys. Roxy is the mom, she is a standard size donkey who is 12hands (48" tall at shoulder). We got her last year in early spring and last August she surprised us with a little foal who we named Cuervo Black, Cuervo for short. Cuervo is now 6 months old and he's already almost as big as Roxy. They are both very sweet and smart. When we got Roxy, she only knew how to have a halter put on and lead, now she will let us pick up her feet to be cleaned, take a bit/bridle, and will accept a small rider on her back and let us lead them around while wearing a bareback pad. Soon we will be weaning Cuervo and having him gelded (don't want anymore babies!). Eventually he will be trained to carry a rider too but not until he's at least 3 1/2 years old. For now, we just have fun with him. He's working on his leading and is super friendly and nosy and he already knows how to lift his feet up to be cleaned. Hope you enjoy the pictures!!

Baby talk is hard to type out... But needless to say, if i could pet through the screen both of those donkeys would get some serious ear scratchies...

Oh... I'm jealous. Have you read Joanna and Ulysses by May Sarton? It is one of my favorite books ever and has a Donkey protagonist.

Donkeys are funny animals. We had a couple on the ranch back in PA. They are sooo dang stubborn. If they didnt want to go somewhere they didnt.

Everyone knows that the donkey carries a cross on his back. Most people don't know the legend of the donkey's cross. The Story is told that the little donkey that had been Jesus' mount on Palm Sunday, came to the hill of Calvary. Seeing the tragic event occurring there he wished with all his heart he had been able to carry the cross for Jesus as he was the proper one to carry heavy burdens. The donkey turned his back on the sight, but he could not leave because he wished to stay until all was over because of his love for Jesus. In reward for the loyal and humble love of the little donkey the Lord caused the shadow of the cross to fall across his back and left it there for the donkey to carry forevermore as a sign that the love of God, no matter how humble carries a reward for all to see. It's also told that the leg stripes were received from walking through the palm branches that were laid in it's path in honor of the burden the donkey was carrying.
