Aside from algae, how do you supplement your ottos diet? Anyone use Nutrafin Max Spirulina Algae Tablets?

Ottos will happily eat a number of vegetables (cucumber, zucchinni, sweet potato...). I've only tried Hikari algae tabs & veggies, and actually I've never been able to get my ottos interested in eating anything but brown algae... stubborn little guys. I've seen ottos eating veggies & algae tabs, just not mine.

By tablets do you mean those ones that sink to the bottom? If so, then it looks like the Nutrafin Spirulina Alage tablets will probably suffice. They're the only thing I could find in the LFS.

yes nutrafin algae disks will be fine. I also feed mine zuchini, cucumber, shrimp pellets, sinking carnivour pellets. I Also have loaches and plecos. So I jsut put in wha ti'm feeding them and the otos will eat it if they want. I have never really seen my otos eat but i feed the foods above on different days and my otos are acouple years old so they ust be eating somethign.

I have read that otos are strict herbivores but that does not seem to be the case. According to http://www.fishprofiles.com/interactive/forums/thread.asp?id=16674 they have a real sweet tooth for freeze dried tubifex. I feed mine Hikari algae wafers which are definitely sinking and they seem to like them fine. Never tried the sinking carnivore pellets for them but I intend to - today!

I've also noticed that apart from the brown algae, I can't coax my ottos into eating anything else (though I've tried algae wafers, sinking wafers, and a bunch of vegetables). They seem to strongly prefer brown algae, and it doesn't seem to take much to keep 'em going. So I wouldn't worry if your ottos don't seem interested in eating what you drop in for 'em, it just means they've got plenty to eat already. (I have seen ottos go after algae wafers and vegetables, just not in my tank...)

mine liked spirulina tablets, and they tolerated algae tablets, but mostly subsisted on what was growing in the tank.
