Hello too all, It's been a'lil while since I logged on. I'm going to be starting up a 30gal. saltwater set-up for my son, I have a 400 Bio-wheel filter laying around that I'd like to use.My question is about the "end pins" on the wheel's itself. They are metal NOT PLASTIC. This complete set-up was freshwater.....Can I use these Bio-wheel's w/the metal end's on a saltwater set-up ?

I usually don't like metal in contact with any water. Even stainless steel will eventually corrode. Then again, ideally, you won't want to really use the biowheels. While they are great at mineralization/nitrification, they are almost too good at it. They will rapidly convert ammonium (and some ammonia) to nitrite, then to nitrate, resulting in a relatively quick buildup of nitrate. By utilizing live rock, vigorous circulation, and using your filter for chemical media like carbon and phosphate remover, you can slow or even prevent this whole process.

BTW, you must have one of the older models--the metallic ends haven't been around for a while now.

Yea, that sounds GREAT. I think I have a Koralia-1 laying around to move the water abit...& yes, older model on the 400......Thanks a bunch
