I want to be made into a reef!

I just saw this on CNN but how awesome is this? They will take your cremated ashes, mix them with some special cement, make you into a fish friendly object, and drop you in one of the locations available at that time in the ocean. They last at least 500 years, and the cost isn't too bad, nothing you can't plan for. How cool is this?!

their web site is www.eternalreefs.com (http://www.eternalreefs.com) .

that is freaky, well I'm still trying to get used to the idea that I'm going to die. So I try to not think about it that much. lol

I've known about this since it first made the news about 10 years ago. It's what I want as well.

Very cool...I want to be made into a diamond though...http://www.lifegem.com/

Not really, I would be too worried some future family member would pawn me off. Becoming a reef would be much cooler.

I'm 41, so death is slowly getting closer to me and I still have a hard time understanding the concept of not being alive. And even though I don't want to die (like everyone else!), having a use like this after I die feels better then being stuck in the ground . For me anyway. I love that your family and friends can also write something in the wet mixture and even put their handprints on it. I love knowing that some little shrimp will make a home out of me:) I sent away for the information packet and DVD and will look it over again, then put it with my living will (which everyone should have!).

i was indifferent until i realized its gunna be part of an underwater cemetery. i think that would be pretty cool. but still, id rather just be thrown into the ocean than become a part of it

Unfortunately, I don't think you can legally just be put in the ground or tossed into the ocean. I went to a funeral last month and remember thinking that there was no way I wanted to be pumped full of preservatives, have my hair styled, my head on a fluffy pillow and be in an expensive box for eternity. As I get older and more people I know start dying, you start to think about these things I guess. When I saw that article today on how I didn't have to be stuck in a box in the ground or sitting in an urn in the garage, I could be a home for fish! I think it's a great option!

legally, maybe not. i would hate to put a burden on my future family with funeral charges, but im sure by the time i die being shot into the sun after death will be mandatory....

what does it matter where you are buried? when you're dead you're dead.

OMG, LMAO! I can't believe I read this today of all days....my (ex) step dad just called me today to tell me he made and paid for all his funeral arrangements, he wants to be creamated and he named me as the "contact" person as to what to do with his remains once he is gone!!! I had no idea he was doing this, so it really through me off but then I come here and read this...it made me laugh! I was thinking of putting him in a "vial" kind of thing that can be made into a necklace, but hey maybe I should do this LMAO!!!!!!!!!!!! The kicker is the fact he has 3 children that are actually his blood but he picked me for this, I am just not quite sure what to think really

It matters because someone has to make that decision after you die, so it's the nice thing to do to have a plan and pay for it so those who love you don't have to. Instead of upset relatives crying "what do we do? what would he want?", they will know that you want to be buried in x graveyard, or cremated and put on the mantle or cremated and mixed in with concrete and dropped to the bottom of the sea, or whatever. Knowing what you want to have happen to you just takes the burden off those left behind.

no burden for me... if someone dies and leaves me responsible, and without instruction, i'm gonna do it how i like.. who's gonna tell me otherwise? ;)

Oh families can really get ugly over these sorts of things. It would be great to be appointed to handle final arrangements for someone when they had no other living relatives. That's rarely the case and the ugliness that can come out of handling a burial and a person's estate can be shocking.

I'd like to be put in a hole in the ground -naked and with nothing - just like I came into this world! Let me compost and plant a tree on top of me. Or toss me into the ocean. I don't mind becoming a part of the food chain once I'm dead.

Did you see what they're charging for a reef burial? Nuts... Screw that!! lol..

I'd rather be cremated with my ashes thrown in the ocean!

totally true and i agree 100%! its a morbid thing to plan for, but hey, one has to do it.

what im really saying is how does it matter if you're buried in the earth or at sea? i mean, once you're dead you're just plain gone!!! so you maya s well go for the cheapest way and keep the money in the family...that's what penny pinching in college does to someone like me in my mind i guess.
