First Fish forum I have joined so far. I just picked up a 90Gal fully set up with fish and inverts included, I had a saltwater setup about 15 years ago and am a bit rusty. I see lots of stuff has changed since then. Let me start by giving a stocking list. One small clown, dwarf lionfish, falco hawk,Brisltenose Tang, Hippo Tang, blue devil damsel, Blue fin damsel, sally lightfoot crab, 3 emrald crabs, one small piece of live rock, small starfish (not shure but I think some kind of brislte star) about 4 snails 3 of them stay under the sand? I think thats it for the livestock, lights are 2 65W whites 2 Blues and three lunar lights all in one fixture with fans. One fluval 405, one protein skimmer, two power heads with filters and one duel biowheele hang on. Does anyone see any issues with this set up? I took all the water and kept the filter bags and live sand wet. Took about 4 hours to move the 30 miles and set up, everybody made the move fine and the water test fine (tested daily for first 3 days all test are fine) So once again any forseable issues? How soon before I can add more fish. How many fish will a 90gal hold? Thanks in advance Jim

I dont know what to say really. If you can maintain keeping water parameters in check then all is fine.

The tanks huge and its hard to say if having for bad example 20 damsels vs 30 is better or worse.

You have the swimming room...since all fish vary in habbits and territory and or swim room..bio loads...Thats a tough one...and since I am no fish guy I am only left with some simple thoughts.

As long as your fish are happy and your bio load isn't unmanageable you are good then.

My only concerns is reading from other articles and how things were done in the past... you may want to see how others run tanks now to get an idea.

The only thing I personally dislike is Canister filters. They trap Detritus material which basically increases pollution in the water. Where letting Detritus stay stirred up in the water column till the skimmer can suck it out is best.

I also suggest picking up a more clean up crews...numbers is hard to really give you any good guidelines... Fish stores will say stuff like 1 snail per gallon of astrea, blue legs, nesarious snails. ....but you know i only have 1/3 of what they suggested...and i dont have an algae problem. All I know is for sure you have too few.

Try grabbing 10 astrae snails 10 turbos 10 blue legs and 20-30 Nesarious snails... but thats me... even this is way lower than general suggestions but you can always add more if you see regular algae on glass not being eaten fast enough (the flat slimy algae for readers) but you the person with background know which I am talking about =).

For fowlr my understanding from members on this site ...you all dont need the overkill lighting us reef guys have...so i guess its all about what color you want the tank to look like....

Now you go reef ...differ ballgame.

PS I would like to add an Idea but not necessary but you may like it.

How about getting a big sump and fuge.. ? Get about 1lb per gallon of live rock eventually in the display to.

Then depend on the Skimmer and Fuge for pollutant control... Big Bad skimmer will take out DOC's so thats less impact to water quality already...and Fuge to eat Nutrients we dont want in water...

The benefit is less crap hanging on the tank..no canister...no hob filter... and even though you are Fish only tank...the benefit is less frequent or lower volume water changes.

The live rock for bio, The chaeto in fuge for Nutrients export and pods population for fishies, and a very very good skimmer... you are good to go.

just an idea...
