I wish god didnt put it on this earth. Its the most pain in the *** plant ever created and i almost punced a hole through my aquarium today when i found pieces of it all in my filter intake and floating at the top after i spent 20 min anchoring it down.:swear:

riccia is right on par with duckweed as far as nuisance value.

LOL, but its beautiful. There is a reason Amano uses it in almost all his scapes.

growing it for a single Kodak moment photo and actually having it in your tank to maintain few times a week isnt the same.. :silly:
It is a beautiful plant though, probably one of the prettiest/greenest/easiest to pearl plants out there.

I actually like riccia :S. Just get reptile tweezers and get all the pieces.

:werd: I have my share of frustration with this plant. I'd rather mush it and use it as plant food for the snails.:banher:

I use to love this stuff.
Then I tried tying it down on a rock and had to much water flow in the tank and it eventually got blown out of the fishing line that was holding it together..
Then after picking up all the little pieces trying to fit it all back together, my hands where covered in this crap.. So I flushed it all down the toilet...

Wow, you're all so down on riccia, and I was excited today to find a store that stocks it here!

If you grow them properly, they can grow into a clump bigger than size of a tennis ball before trimming is needed, also they tend to hanging on to each other quite securely. Even if trimming is neglected, and pieces float off the main clump, usually the clump will come out as a whole which is easily pick up by hand.

You do get little pieces floating around here and there, but really nothing dramatic, just net them up once a week or so.

My experience is that most people are afraid of hurting them, and don't tie them tight enough. You really have to tie them up just right, put a small clump about 3 - 4 layers thick on a flat surface, use fish line wrapping them up each turn should be around 0.5 cm apart, and make sure the fish line is hand tight, means you pull the fish line hard enough so that it is starting to put pressure on the riccia layers visibly, don't worry, you won't kill the riccia.
