I know Otto's make quick work of diatom algae, but do they eat green algae as well? (Not the hair variety)

Yes, they will eat most algaes, espcially favoring the forms that readily grow on glass and objects. I have not personally seen my Otos eat the hair or the slimy algaes.

Also, I also see mine readily feed on wafers and shrimp pellets (but it took months before they started to do this).

mine eat anything, they eat wafers, pellets, snail jello, romain lettuce blanched, anykind of food i have in there but then again i've had them for over 3 years,... they are fat little buggers when they get done eating,..

They will not eat the slime algae, the hard green spot algae that forms on glass and plants from bright light, or bba. They eat soft algaes and diatoms. If they get hungry enough they will eat pellets and wafers, but they prefer the soft algaes and diatoms.

If you have a hard time obtaining other sources for algae as oto food, put some stones on a bucket of water and leave it under direct sunlight. Add a handful of fishfood. It should grow soft green algae after a few days. Soft green algae is a firm favorite of several algae eaters.
