I have verizon and am on a shared plan and in order to get this I have to upgrade from my shared plan to two indiviual plans so in the end it would end up costing me more.

This feature is included free on all Nationwide Voice plans that are over $59.99 and Family Plans that are over $89.99. You might not have to upgrade your plan to use this feature.

Land lines on Verizon too..
BUT***
do you have to pay for incoming calls from the top5?
Are only calls TO the top 5 free?
(on Verizon)
I believe all calls made to the numbers, or coming from the numbers, on the Top 5 (10) list are free to you. The person on the other end may be charged.

I do not believe Verizon land lines are free to call. You only get free Verizon mobile to mobile calls.

YES Verizon land lines are free...
Let me look...
from the verizon site:
Friends & Family allows you to pick a set number of telephone numbers, on any network, and talk with these friends without using your plan minutes. Please note: telephone numbers must be entered in standard, ten digit format; only domestic landline or wireless numbers (other than directory assistance, 900 numbers, or customer's own wireless or voice mail access numbers) may be added; all qualifying lines on an account share the same Friends & Family numbers, up to the account's eligibility limit.

thats to add to friends for family vs network to network..... its only free if you add the number as a friend or family.... its any landline you want to add not just verizon land lines.

Well I have the new friends and family, My mom's home phone, and my GF's home phone are on the top 5. I dont have a family plan..
The above is quoted from the friends and family page where you enter the 5 numbers you want to talk to for free...
the below is quoted from the link on the first page of this thread...
Individual Plans
Who do you call the most? Your friends? Your family? Your colleagues? No matter whom you call most frequently, Friends & Family from Verizon Wireless makes keeping in touch easier than ever. Talk as much as you want to 5 people on any network — even landlines — without using your minutes.
Seems simple enough to me.
where are you guys reading that they arent free???

I think what they were saying is they are only free if you add them to your 5. The way it was stated initially made it sound as if it was already free to call Verizon land lines in the same sense that it's already free to call another Verizon cell phone regardless of whether you have the new "5" plan.

Everything except "The Network".
similar to "The Macintosh". hyped, advertised, elitist..... still just run of the mill.
;)
It's not elitist, it's a fact. They are the largest cellular network in the USA.

Coverage varies by where you live. I'd choose a provider based on what's the best for my area...balanced of course with price and needs.

That's a good philosophy if you rarely travel.

True, I meant to put that disclaimer and then forgot. Still would depend on where you travel, if it's by car, who has the best rural coverage and all that. I just don't think it's as simple as Verizon is the biggest.
Did you happen to get my PM? I saw that you were in Ohio as well, so I dropped you a line.

In my area verizon, sprint and at&t are the only three that work period, no other cell coverage.

I don't know that I would call $99.99 under a hundred dollars but sprint even sucks in my area.

I had verizon when I first moved to my house...had to switch due to no service. Gotta love living in the middle of nowhere, although at least AT&T works there. But then again, I use oh...150 minutes a month on my cell anyway so its a pretty moot point lol

my sprint had service there too... so much for "The Network", LOL.. sounds about as selective and random as any other celphone service.

yeah there are a few others that will work here and there, but at&t has been by far the most consistent. it might depend somewhat on the phone as well.

Just to add to the arguments...lol. Where i live verizon is the only cell provider where i get service everywhere i go. I had sprint for a while and couldn't get service hardly anywhere. And i've talked to people with at&t that recommended against switching to it because of lack of service. And btw...zigman how is the omnia? I'm looking at possibly picking one up with an upgrade.
