I would hold on to the money for about a month and see if anything appeared on the news about it.. if I didnt hear anything FINDERS KEEPERS and I would pay all my debt off.

The reason I wouldnt call the cops is not because im a criminal.. but because they would most likely take it and it would end up in the evidence room... cops in my town are crooked for the most part (nothing against cops... Ive met many nice officers.. but the ones here are HORRIBLE, RACIST, and SCANDALOUS)

If it includes the documents, trace the contents for contact, etc back to the owner.

I'd like to say that I'd do the proper thing and turn it over to the police. But, who really knows?

I would hand it in to the cops because over here if it's not claimed within 6 months you get to keep it. There was a binman in the news recently who found a binbag full of £20 notes that had been cut in half he handed it in to the cops and 6 months later he was given it back. He stuck it all together and the royal mint exchanged it for undamaged money so he ended up with over £30,000, what a result!

I'm a big believer in karma and what goes around comes around... i'd do everything in my power to get the money back to the owner... and i'd like to think that if i did something as boneheaded as lose a lot of money like that, someone else would do the same for me.

I'd assume it was money from a drug deal gone bad, and leave it where I found it. My life is worth more than $10,000...

I would put it away until I heard who may own it. in my small town anyone looses that money it hits the papers. the cops here are dirty, real dirty so no way am I giving it to them. but I would not spend one dine until I

A.wait to hear if someone lost it
B. 3 months go by or longer with out word.

I once walked around cap cod for hours in 115 degree weather looking for the owner of a wallet that had more money in it then I have ever owned. I found it in a store parking lot and when I went to turn it in everyone behind the counter jumped at me to get it. I decided if the guy sat on that wallet he would soon miss it. he did 3 hours later and when I handed it to him he just walked away. pissed me off since I had 5 kids with me waiting in the hot sun for someone to come looking for it.

I would complete my plywood tank faster, put a stroker motor into my 93 Chevy 1500 regular cab, short bed pickup. Maybe buy something for the wife, the kids, and myself. Throw a big party at my house for the Marines I work with on a daily basis, playing horseshoes all day gettin drunk off my @ss! I'd buy a sweet inflatble boat from seaeagle.com, they've got some cool stuff. Then call it a day. AHHH it's nice to dream, but I'd turn it over in the end.

If there were no documents or any files and just money, I'd keep it. It's their fault they lost $10,000. I would then spend it on a bigger tank and fill her up with Coral Red Pencilfish, Black Morpho Tetras and other fish. Then the other $5,000 is for college.

:D

as I said.. I would at least TRY to find the owner-- I would hold onto it for a while... but in the end I would rather spend it than give it to the cops who wouldnt do the right thing anyway-- cops here are BAD

Yeah, I was skin diving near a pier when I was 15. A guy on the pier yelled to me and my friends that he dropped his wallet. He said he would give us a reward if we found it. I was looking around and found it . It was packed with cash . I could have stuck it in my shorts and said we can't find it but I did the right thing . They lowered the net , he raised it up and walked away :eek::werd:

now there's an idea... nothing against cops or any other authorative figure, but don't blame me for doubting that they'll go out of their way to find the owner of the money. At least, nothing that we can't already do on our own.

I'm usually a very very honest person... but I've been asking the powers that be for a bailout for my money situation for so long I'd take it as a sign. If someone can carry AND loose $10,000 then they probably have more than that in banks somewhere. I'd hide it in my house, slowly use half to pay my most immediate debt and bank the rest slowly as not to seem suspicious.

i'll leave the first part of that quote there... even though it doesn't apply to my reply..

the post i quoted was in agreement with the person who posted it.. not a dig at them. i could have left the other part of the post in, sure, but it made no difference to what i was trying to say. ;)
