I have an unusual request.

I am one of three people slotted to go to Iraq for 6 months. I would leave end of June to Camp LeJeune for one month training... then to Iraq for 6 months.

Potentially back in the States January 2010. I will know more on Monday. Feb 22nd. Detailer wants to talk to all candidates.

I have a cat (which I am not suppose to have) and some fish (which I am not suppose to have).

The tank is a 30 gallon fresh water setup (that I have as a coffee table)with african peacocks which I can donate to my local pet store.

However, I also have a fresh water "fire eel" which I do not want to give up if possible.

I am wondering if you know someone that could take in a cat for 7 months and/or someone that could at least add my eel fish to their tank (all the fish would be wonderful).

Due to the short time frame and numerous things I will need to do to prepare for Iraq ... I am trying to get a contingency plan for my animals in place.

I can pay a little something, but am mostly hoping to find a cat/fish lover who can help me out for about 7 months until I return home.

I live in Arlington Virginia.

I'm sorry I can't help, but I wanted to say good luck--and welcome to Aquaria Central.

Does your cat enjoy the company of other cats? How is it around dogs? What kind of cat? Is it an inside cat?

She is 16 years old. A large (but small for her breed) grey colored spayed Maine Coon named "tibby". She is an inside cat. She has stayed with other cats before. Once for a whole year. Its rough in the beginning but in the end they seem to work it out. She is kinda a scaredy (sp?) cat. She runs away from people who come over unless I am right there re-assuring her. She also prefers a clean litterbox and has eaten the same dry food for 10 years. She is very talkative to me, but will probably sulk the whole time I am gone. I feel sad having to do this to her... hopefully someone can make her a nice home while I am gone.

Hey,

I'm in DC, but unfortunately I can't house the cat (no pets in the building, except the little mice that live in my walls), and I only have a 20g. Let me speak with my brother out in Silver Springs, maybe he'll be willing to house the cat till you get back. I can let you know after the weekend.

Good luck out there.
