View Full Version : magnum 350 canister filters info. needed please
I bought a tetra-tech 500 filter only to find out when i got it home that it is too wide for my tru-vu plexi tank, the openings on the top rear are only 13 inches across the aqua clear [ the one for 100 gal. tanks is also to wide, so, i bought a MAGNUM 350 canister, and i am going to run one of my power heads from my old UG filter attched to a foam filter and set it at the rear bottom corner and aim it across to the far side of the tank where my ebo-jaeger 250 watt heater will be near the canister filter intake tube, MY QUESTION IS, was the MAGNUM 350 canister a good choice for me ? i am just about to the end of my equipment replacement budget, thanks in advace.

i'm running a magnum 350 with a pro kit [2 biowheels]. and i have to clean the blue filter thing weekly. even before i clean it the biowheels have stopped turning [not good. thats why the penguin 330 is there to back it up ]. i know i should have cut the tubing shorter but i didnt plan to leave it on this tank. yuck build up in the tubing is probably affecting flow rate.
my problem is real plants in the tank. plants that fall apart. if i put the diatom filter in, it would probably clog in an hour or so.
i picked up some ceramics for the media basket in the 350 so even if the biowheels stop doing their job, i have a good beneficial bacteria farm going.
the hang off tank magnum seems like it would be easier to service but not as many gallons per hour. i'd love to try an eheim before i buy another magnum 350. not that i hate it, i just think the grass maybe greener on the fluval/eheim side of the fence.
my tank also has one of my power heads in the corner opposite side where i will put my magnum out flow /inflow tubes and my heater will be as close to the magnums intake as i can get it. my power head is attached to a foam filter which should give me some additional filtering, How much water flow do you get out of the magnums outflow tube, and does it come out at a good rate to move water through the tank ?i haven't got mine out of the box yet i will do that tonite.:)
