Has anyone ever noticed an MTS crawling across the substrate suddenly keel over like it's dead, sit immobile for hours, and then suddenly go about it's business again like nothing happened? I recently set up a new five gallon tank on my desk at work and put some of my MTS in since I have a sand substrate. I'm not for sure if it's the same one, but a good sized snail has been doing the above behavior for a few weeks now.

That happened to me yesterday, I have a MTS that about a 1/2 inch long and he was sticking straight out of the substrate just hanging there for a few hours then went on about his day, he's up on the glass roaming around now. I thought he was dead, but seems fine now.

Hmmmm. Sounds interesting. I just won some on aquabid so I'm looking forward to getting them, I'll have to check them out and see if they do the same. How many do you have in your tanks, and how big are your tanks. I'm not sure how many to add to each of my aquariums.

i only have 1 in my 10G but next time i go to the LFS i'm going to ask for a few more (they love to give them away they have tons), i heard they are good for keeping gas pockets out of the substrate.

I have a few in a 100 gallon (6') tank. I have not seen them since I put them in. However, I have noticed a great reduction in the number of gas pockets I find when stirring up the sand during water changes. When I first put them in some appeared dead but after a few minutes they buried themselves into the sand!

Play dead? Maybe more like sleeping or resting is my guess.

Put a handful in. They'll multiply to create their own stable population. I got mine from aquabid too. There were approximately 100 for my 20 gallon. They like to stay hidden in the daytime, so you'll never really know how many you have.

I notice mine sometime freak when I do a water change. I won't see a single one for weeks, and then the day after a water change/vac they all come boiling out of the sand.
