What would you do with this?

We have a spare 12"x12"x12" Exoterra cube tank and aren't sure if we should keep something in it or get rid of it. It previously held a tarantula, but I'm just not into arachnids or insects. Are there any suitable herps? The cage will hold up to about 3" of water.

What would YOU do?

Just to add, the Exoterra has a screen top, as well as front doors that open (but are padlocked).

Any suggestions are welcome! :)

How about some type of crab? (with some lovely plantings, of course!)

I love ExoTerra tanks. Such a great design. You might be able to squeeze a pair of darts in there. I know you could keep at least one. I believe the rule of thumb is 1 dart frog per 10 gallons of aquarium space.

If you're into geckos you could keep a pair of Dune or Viper Geckos in there.

Hey, thanks for the advice Seth! :)

Thing is, we are still considering dart frogs for a 27 hex build we are doing together. DIY styro/concrete background, plus a waterfall feature and live plants. We haven't made up our minds for sure on how to stock that one though.

I know nothing about geckos, but HN knows a ton more about herps than I do. If you think that is a possibility for us, we'll definitely do some research! :)

Could you possibly link us to some good sites to learn more about dune or viper geckos? Thanks man! :)

I plan on building a dart frog tank in the near future but I have other projects I need to finish first. I'm in the process of finishing up a Crested Gecko tank that I built a fake wall for using foam, silicon and EcoEarth. I'll start a thread on the build very soon. Might give you some ideas. :D I don't have much experience with Darts but I know a few members on here have them and I'm sure they'll chime in.

Viper and Israeli Dune geckos are very easy to keep ground gecko species. 2-4 of them can be easily kept in a 10 gallon aquarium. I have a friend who breeds Viper Geckos and their young are soooo tiny, not even an inch long when born. If you have any questions about these, I'm here to help. :)

I'll second the Viper Geckos. Mine are awesome, the only problem is they hide constantly. Once the lights go out, I do sit and watch them with a red light on and they are quite active and comical at night.

I have 4 hatchlings now, 2 more per week for the next 2 or 3 weeks should come, then a week off and 2 more each week for the next 5 to 7 weeks. I stopped their egg laying at 13 pairs, hopefully that will be all this year.
