My apple snail was fine until this morning when he dropped of the glass twice and no longer grazes on the glass. He closes his mouth when on the glass now. He also has stopped eating. He rarely comes outa his shell. I feed him crab pellets cos of the calcium. Is that OK? He also keeps half of his foot off of the surface sometimes. All the nerites are fine. Please help! Ive only had him for four days. :(

My snails regularly float around on top of the water half open and I worry about it but then I will see them on the glass as usual. I think that it is just a matter of time and getting to know them personally. My golds are very active, my blues are slightly less active and I have some dark ones that just kinda hang around, stuck to something most of the time.So just get to know him. He might just be full. LOL

yeah, it's still pretty early so try not to stress, although i can admit to wringing my hands over my own critters :) If he is eating it's always a good sign.

Good luck.. try not to worry. Sometimes they take a long time to de-stress after being at a fish store. Hope he comes around soon.

Thank-you for the replies everyone. I just found it realy weird because he was fine on the day I got him and for 2 more days after that :(
I'll see how he is today.

Now he has started trying to bury himself, but the layer of gravel is very thin and so he can't and has given up now.

At night he always floats to the top in his shell, and then about an hour after lights on, he comes out and down

Sounds like he is just getting used to your tank. What are your parameters? They are very sensitive to ammonia, nitrite, and nitrates.

Do a water change then, can't hurt and can only help. If it was acting differently, and now is acting symptomatic, I would guess something is going on. What size is this tank? What are the other inhabitants, and how long has it been running?

I did a small waterchange and there is no odd behaviour now. He ate his crab pellets too.
he tank is 5 gallons, and it has three zebra nerites, and 5 white cloud mountain minnows.

P.S. Thanks for your help :)
